So, don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m writing a book! It’s called WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL. And I’m as excited about it as anything I’ve ever done. I’m in the stretch run now, which means that I’m thinking about it more or less every minute of every day, and I’m restlessly dreaming about it at night, and I’m worried about it, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.
Don’t use an autopen (see recently Bob Dylan scandal over his publisher using one . . . no one thinks Bob himself was trying to scratch out a few more dollars . . .).
Joe- how i really wish i could afford it; as a musician who plays largely on the streets and a few clubs i can barely afford food, let alone my monthly transit pass & my wifi for my laptop, especially in the cold, snowy winter months here in Hamburg (thankfully, where i live is rent-free, otherwise i'd really have problems!)... i am grateful for the gift subscription to your wonderful writing that has been bestowed upon me, every piece i read from you truly brightens up any day a bit more, because i LOVE sports (don't we all?!?!?!?!?)
Had an idea as I was reading the description. As an homage to the Poscast Holiday draft, it would be great if you could get Alan Sepinwall to write “It’s the ideal sports gift book for the holidays.” as a quote for an Advance Praise section on the back of the dust jacket.
What? You’re writing a book? How is this the first time I hear about it? I mean, I know you don’t like to brag or anything, Joe, but you *could* have mentioned it once on the PosCast!
I preordered the book and, while I was at it, I also ordered The Machine. I absolutely loved The Baseball 100 and I love this blog so I know there’s a lot of good reading ahead.
Have you ever explained what the Season Ticket thing is before? Could you put it in your About section? Could you describe what my extra $140/year would get me, other than what was said in this post... or is it just all too vague to say at this point? Because, no offense, but I don't want to spend an extra $140 a year on "Maybe there's more stuff, but who knows?!" Clarification would be helpful, thanks!
This is fair ... and why I haven't really promoted it. There are people who dived in on Season Ticket because they wanted to support me, which is extremely kind. But as far as value proposition, I honestly have not had the opportunity to really clarify things. I do know that there will be an early edition of the signed book, and I do know that there will be a few special behind the scenes posts, but beyond that I still have a lot to work out. It's sort of like buying into a beta; and I fully get not wanting to dive in just yet.

Can. Not. Wait.

Any chance of a pre-order special where we can get a signed copy? (Outside of the Season Ticket subscription option)
I love my signed copy of The Baseball 100, and would love to get your new book signed.
Or, even better...a Rainy Day book signing in Kansas City??
Thanks! Pre-ordered from my favorite local book store.
This is exciting - can’t wait to read it.

Done!

Ordered! Can't wait. Guess I'll just have to re-read the baseball 100!! How many days until pitchers and catchers report?
Can I guess? 50 great moments told from two separate perspectives each equals 100 moments.
Thats what immediately came to mind. So Merkle's boner as told by Fred Merkle and by Johnny Evers.
The unique perspectives bit makes this book even more of a must buy for me.
How sweet of you to think of my birthday like that, Joe!
