Why We Love Baseball Preorder!
So, don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m writing a book! It’s called WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL. And I’m as excited about it as anything I’ve ever done. I’m in the stretch run now, which means that I’m thinking about it more or less every minute of every day, and I’m restlessly dreaming about it at night, and I’m worried about it, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.
Well, the book can be found in the wild now!
That’s the Dutton Publishing Page for the book, but I guess it’s already available for preorder at Indiebound, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Hudson, and will soon be available a whole bunch of other places. There’s a generic cover being used online right now; that will NOT be the actual cover of the book. I’m looking at actual covers right now. They look wonderful.
Here’s the description of the book right now:
WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL: A History of the Game in 50 Moments.
A love letter to baseball, and the follow-up to last year’s runaway bestseller, THE BASEBALL 100
THE BASEBALL 100 was about the top 100 baseball players. Joe Posnanski’s next book is about the top 100 moments.
Willie Mays’ catch. Babe Ruth’s called shot. Kirk Gibson’s limping home run.
BUT—each moment will be told from a unique perspective. That of a real fan who witnessed it, or the pitcher who gave up the home run. The umpire, the coach, the opposing player, the teammate. Fresh tales on legendary moments so powerful they almost feel like myth.
This will be the ideal sports gift book of the holidays!
Now, that description will change, too, but there are some cool hints in there. For instance, the working subhead is “A History of the Game in FIFTY Moments” and yet in the description, it says that the book is about the top ONE HUNDRED moments. How can that be?
I absolutely cannot wait for you to see this book.
This is probably a good time to remind you of the promotion we have going: I am putting together a special letter/preview of this book that I’m sending out on Christmas morning to everyone who buys a gift subscription or donates a subscription to JoeBlogs readers who, for various reasons, cannot afford a subscription right now.
And while I’ve not made a big deal about this before — in fact, I don’t think I’ve even mentioned it before — a lot of you have asked about the Season Ticket option here at Joe Blogs. The JoeBlogs Season Ticket is more expensive, but it does come with a couple of pretty special perks, including an early signed edition of WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL and a few book sneak peeks going forward. Obviously, Season Ticket holders will also be getting the Christmas morning preview of WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL.
But the main point here is not to push JoeBlogs, but to let you know: WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL is live and happening. Right now the publication date is Sept. 5, 2023. I suppose that date might be changed, you know, if I don’t get back to writing the book. So I’ll go ahead and get back to it now!

Joe- how i really wish i could afford it; as a musician who plays largely on the streets and a few clubs i can barely afford food, let alone my monthly transit pass & my wifi for my laptop, especially in the cold, snowy winter months here in Hamburg (thankfully, where i live is rent-free, otherwise i'd really have problems!)... i am grateful for the gift subscription to your wonderful writing that has been bestowed upon me, every piece i read from you truly brightens up any day a bit more, because i LOVE sports (don't we all?!?!?!?!?)
Can I guess? 50 great moments told from two separate perspectives each equals 100 moments.
