I’ve got a little Championship Game recap coming later this morning, but first I’m so excited to share with you: The signed and personalized preorder campaign for WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL is online and live!!
I’m kind sad to see that the book inscriptions have to be limited to 100 characters or less. I mean, that’s less than an old-school tweet. Very unlike our beloved Joe. Hopefully that limit will go up?
I don't care a lick about football. I can watch a game, but I can turn away from it on a moment's notice and never think about it again. The game just doesn't do anything for me.
And yet, I am going to buy and read this book. Your writing brings things to unexpected life, Poz. I'll be delighted to dive in.
Joe - doesn't look like the pre-order facilitates shipping to Canada. Will there eventually be a possibility to pre-order a personalized copy for those of us fans that live in Canada?
2) When you do get to Portland, you really should spend a couple hours at the Portland Japanese Garden. Actually, it's 5 gardens in one complex. It is the most beautiful and lovely spot in the whole country. It's amazing. And only like 15-20 minutes from Powell's. No one will tell you that it's not worth your time. (There's a dry/zen garden, a flat garden, a strolling garden, a tea garden (that you can only look at from around it) and the "natural garden." Plus, there are two areas with small collections of high quality bonsai. It's really a special place.)
You’ve never been to Powell’s in Portland? How is that possible for an indie bookstore lover like you proclaim to be and someone who travels on a regular basis? It’s magical and marvelous, huge and rambling. Rooms are color coded to help you navigate. In fact you probably need to look at the in store map to help navigate, unless you want to get lost as you meander from room to room. Here’s a link to an older article- pre pandemic- titled The happiest place on earth.
Portland! Yes, please come to Portland! (Never been in a book store quite like Powell’s. For those uninitiated, it is new and used books in a store that is three stories tall and takes up an entire city block. When I was in college the technical bookstore was its own marvel, another large space a few blocks away but alas the Internet has done it in. The main store is still a spectacle though.)
Is it possible to get an inscription on your Baseball 100 instead of the new book?
For someone who missed the other promotion. It is for my son who is a library director and a published author. We bought copies of your baseball books but would love to give him an inscribed copy.
Joe, you have to come back to San Francisco and do another signing with Substack - the Why We Love Baseball event at Harlan Records was incredible, and in addition to enjoying meeting you I also got the chance to meet and chat with Molly Knight and I joined her Substack as a result.
You need to visit Book Passage in Corte Madera, a suburb of San Francisco. A wonderful independent book store with lots of author talks. Maybe you’ll have a stop there on your book tour?

1) Ordered. Duh. Same inscription as before.

There had better be a Priest Holmes story in there.

I hope you finally get to Powell’s this year Joe.

Second (third?) Powell’s, though I’ve only been once. I had to leave before I passed out from FOMO. Luckily the Deschutes taproom was nearby.
That might be the most Portland thing I’ve ever heard, Ray!

Thanks for considering the request.

I second this. That was a great event. Make sure they get the same caterer.
Will it have all its pages?

On the Why We Love Baseball book tour, Joe also visited Copperfield's Books in Santa Rosa, maybe do Marin this time.
