The Preorder Campaign for WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL is Live!
I’ve got a little Championship Game recap coming later this morning, but first I’m so excited to share with you: The signed and personalized preorder campaign for WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL is online and live!!
Most of you will remember that we have done the last two campaigns with our good friends at Rainy Day Books in Kansas City. You all know just how much Rainy Day means to me. This time, though, for logistical reasons (and to spread the wealth!), we’re doing it with another incredible bookstore, Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh!
Just a quick aside: I would rather be in an indie bookstore than pretty much anywhere else. They make me so happy. A few years ago, we were in Raleigh for something or other, and we were walking around and just happened to walk into Quail Ridge. And, for me, it was like walking into Disney World. Wow, I love that feeling of walking into a bookstore I’ve never been into—that first time of walking into Parnassus Books in Nashville or Left Bank Books in St. Louis or The Last Bookstore in L.A. or Chevalier’s in L.A. or Copperfield’s in San Francisco or Thunder Road Books in Spring Lake or Joseph-Beth in Cincinnati, or… I can’t list all of them.* But they fill my heart. Quail Ridge is just wonderful.
*You know what? I’ve never been into Powell’s in Portland. We’ve got to try and make that happen on the tour.
And because these preorder campaigns take A LOT of work, we decided this year to do it in a place I can pretty easily drive to —if this preorder campaign is anything like the last few, it will take a few trips to make sure we get it all right.
The deal is the pretty much same. If you go to the special Quail Ridge page, you can preorder WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL and I’ll inscribe ANY WAY YOU WANT. If you want me to list the 10 greatest Jacksonville Jaguars kickers, you got it. If you want me to offer a personal greeting to your friend or loved one or yourself, you got it. If you want me to compare the great coaches with fruit and vegetables, you got it.* If you want me to write something baseball or golf or PosCast or magic or anything else, you got it. If you want me to write “Michigan rules” or “John Elway forever,” well, I mean, there might be limits.
*Bill Belichick: Broccoli. I have reasons. This is as far as I’ve gotten.
This should be pretty easy: Quail Ridge has created a great little form. There is one small quirk: You can only order one book at a time. I know for the last couple of these, some of you ordered multiple books at the same time… and I couldn’t be more grateful. You can still order multiple books, there is no limit, but, like I say, you have to order them one at a time.
We’re going to keep the preorder campaign going until Father’s Day… and there will be a special bonus for everybody who orders. I’ll tell you more about that in the days and weeks ahead.
So that’s it for now. Here’s the link again—in the image below. I am finishing the book this week, and I have to tell you: I think it’s a blast. Thanks everybody!

I don't care a lick about football. I can watch a game, but I can turn away from it on a moment's notice and never think about it again. The game just doesn't do anything for me.
And yet, I am going to buy and read this book. Your writing brings things to unexpected life, Poz. I'll be delighted to dive in.
You’ve never been to Powell’s in Portland? How is that possible for an indie bookstore lover like you proclaim to be and someone who travels on a regular basis? It’s magical and marvelous, huge and rambling. Rooms are color coded to help you navigate. In fact you probably need to look at the in store map to help navigate, unless you want to get lost as you meander from room to room. Here’s a link to an older article- pre pandemic- titled The happiest place on earth.
I hope you finally get to Powell’s this year Joe.
