This was an absolutely fantastic piece. Perfect tonic for my Father-days hangover. No, not booze, just the sometimes odd feeling the day after of both too-much/too-little attention.

The Kiner line is a gem, but always liked "The only thing I want for Father's Day is to be able to play golf on Mother's Day". Not sure who said it, but certain-people in this household tire of me saying it.

Good laughs for an early Monday morning, Joe - thanks! Hope you had a terrific Father's Day.

Two things:

1) I work a mile away from the Egyptian. Never knew that about Steve Palermo and the restaurant.

2) Our new rescue canine daughter of four months gave me "Big Fan" for Father's Day. When you next come to Dallas, I'll ask you to please inscribe it to her. I told her, once I finish Twain's "The Innocents Abroad" (what I'm reading now), I'll read it next. But, I did read the foreword - no spoilers here, but, wow! I look forward to reading it on Fourth of July weekend.

Steve Palermo is an American hero. And, as great as the story is Joe, the best part if my all-time favorite and terribly underrated Roy White is at home plate waiting to congratulate Bucky Bleeping Dent.

This is a text I sent to two of my friends yesterday: “I’m sure I tell this story every year, but here’s to the late Baseball Hall of Famer and Mets broadcaster Ralph Kiner who, on one Father’s Day broadcast that I was watching as a kid, said, “It’s Father’s Day today here at Shea Stadium, so Happy Birthday to all you fathers out there!””
