"I don’t know if 500 homers gets a player into the Hall of Fame anymore, but he’s certainly a slugger in the Harmon Killebrew class, and Killer is in the Hall of Fame."

I'm probably being oversensitive to this but when Harmon Killebrew retired he had the fifth-most homeruns in baseball history. He led the league in homers six times, in RBIs three times, in walks four times. He hit more homeruns in the 1960s than anyone—Henry, Willie, anyone. By the Bill James/Black Ink test, he's almost 2x a HOFer (48/27). Stanton is great, but he's led the league in homers twice, RBIs once, walks never. He has almost as many strikeouts as Killebrew (1652/1699) and less than half the walks (682/1559). I hope he gets to 500, I hope he gets in. But I don't think he's quite a slugger in the Harmon Killebrew class.

"As I’ve mentioned before: Roger Clemens threw a baseball bat at Mike Piazza. In a World Series game. And he didn’t get thrown out of the game. I will NEVER get over that."

In Game 5 (in those days also known as the deciding game) of the 1977 ALCS, in the bottom of the 1st, George Brett hit a triple to CF at Royals Stadium. As he slid into 3rd, Graig Nettles decided to kick him in the stomach. George got up and started throwing haymakers (and the benches emptied). After the umpires got the game back under control and the players back to their dugouts, the umpires threw exactly NOBODY out of the game. It was as if it never happened.
