John Lackey won the WS with the Angels, Red Sox, and Cubs. That alone should get him in the Hall. I mean, who’s ever doing that again?

Baseball reference shows 5 players whose names begin Jhon- ; Peralta is clearly the best of them. Jhonatan Solano, who had a .184 batting average in parts of two seasons with Washington, offers the most opportunities for misspelling. We currently have two “Jhon”s in the major leagues, which ties the record.

Peralta came up with Cleveland, and after a couple partial seasons broke out with a .292/24/78 campaign in ‘05, as a 23-year-old, good for an OPS+ of 137. Cleveland fans thought we had our own version of A-Rod. He never lived up to that year again, much less followed it up with the bigger seasons we imagined he might have “in his prime,” and I think Cleveland fans judged him too harshly for that. It didn’t help that he was never especially good with the glove.

So it was a bit of a surprise to realize he’d retired with 202 HR and more than 1,700 hits - not just a solid career but a really fine one. Congrats to an underappreciated former member of the Tribe on this week’s honor.
