Thank you for this beautiful, moving, poignant piece about a remarkable person and story. I’m grateful (once again) for your writing and your humanity. Do you have a photo of your grandpa raising the sign or of the newspaper article with the picture? I bet many of us readers would love to see it if you do. That is also such a moving story.
Another great piece of writing. Googling "Herbert Levin" and reading some of the stories--Werner Reich seems to be mentioned in almost everyone of them. What an amazing man, he not only fought for the nightmare of the Holocaust to never get brushed aside, but he also kept the spirit of the Great Nivelli alive. Amazing. Thanks for the story, Joe!
As others have said, this made me cry. There is much evil in the word. We are obligated to work for Tikkun Olam, the healing of the world. You contribute to this, Joe. Thank you.
I think Joe does just about everything well, writing-wise, but one thing that makes me truly marvel at his ability is his obituaries. The quality of Joe’s obituaries is extraordinary.
Maybe a book of Joe’s obituaries would not be as hot a seller as The Baseball 100, but I suspect that it would be an exceptional work of history and biography, and a worthy read.
Lots of forgetting going on these days. Esp ‘forgetting’ as war rages on Ukraine. History is a funny thing. Inaction had NEVER lead to a good outcome. In fact, the price of the solution continues to go up for every day of ‘inaction’. There’s going to be quite a price to pay.
I have to do 15 minutes of voice exercises three times a day for my voice. I usually do one of the sets while reading JoeBlogs because it makes the time pass so quickly. But I just found out I can't do it if I'm crying.
Joe, what a beautiful tribute. Thank you for sharing. Yehi zichro Baruch. Mati

Thank you Joe for such a beautiful story. You made me cry. Not for the first time, I might add.
Thanks Joe. That was beautiful and badly needed in these unsettling, discordant, divisive times.
