WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL galley is out!

Been meaning to try out this video feature they have here on Substack, so I threw together a quick video today because the galley for WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL just arrived in the mail! The video won’t win any awards — you can tell that I’m doing some office rearranging in the background — but I did do it in one take so that’s something.

Anyway, I’m so excited! Galleys are uncorrected paperback books that publishing houses make for reviewers and early readers, and so on. They used to make a lot of them but I guess these days, reviewers and early readers tend to prefer getting e-books, and I get that. I used to get A LOT of galleys from people who wanted me to blurb or promote their books, and they do take up a lot of room.

But they still make some, and this one, I think, is particularly beautiful.

If you watch the video, I do give a little tease about one of the moments in the book — it’s probably a moment you would have guessed was in there if you are a big baseball fan, but if you’re more of a casual fan it might be somewhat unfamiliar to you. Anyway, the book is filled with lots and lots and lots of moments. The subtitle says 50. But it’s more than double that.

This is a personal thing, yes, but it’s a big day for an author when the galleys arrive and you see your words in actual book form for the first time. Good day!

And as long as we’re here, hey, I’ll remind you that WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL is available for preorder and that if you order specifically from our fave bookstore Rainy Day Books by Father’s Day, I will both sign the book and inscribe it however you like. Some of you may know that we are trying desperately to break Mike Schur’s Rainy Day presale record for many reasons, and we’re still a long way off. So, yeah, preorder away.

Preorder from Rainy Day

I’m probably biased on this, but I’m reading through the book, and I’m thinking: You’ll like it. Thanks, everybody … and happy early Mother’s Day, or as Ralph Kiner would say: “To all you mothers out there, happy birthday!”
