Not sure I’ve mentioned this, but I’m currently writing a book called WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL. It will be a countdown of the greatest, funniest, wildest and most legendary moments in the history of baseball put together in such a way that (I hope) it will serve as a beautiful little history of this game.
When the leaves the bat and everyone instantly know it was hit really hard and far; and it brings the crowd to their feet because they don't know if it's an out or a home run.
Jim Price, color commentator for the Tigers' radio broadcast, always has a great call when a pitcher drops in a beautiful 12-6 curveball, he exclaims (with great enthusiasm) "now that was a yellowhammer!" I couldn't help but adopt that phrase myself.
I love walk off home runs. Specifically when the batter is rounding third, the crowd is going crazy and with his jubilant teammates waiting at home plate, he takes off his batting helmet and flings it skyward. That sheer joy always reminds me that baseball is meant to be fun.
The exact moment you realize the ball is going to get by the outfielder, all the way to the wall and the runner on first is going to score and tie or win the game.
A base clearing double is pretty awesome. Same impact as the ubiquitous 3-Run HR. Actually, a little better, since the hitter is now in scoring position.
Highly ironic that you are receiving your Casey Award (congratulations!) at Poor Michael’s Sports Bar when baseball is currently kidnapped by rich people.
Vin Scully!!!
Well, I used to enjoy watching
- a pitcher who took pride in his hitting (Don Drysdale or Cliff Lee, for example)
- a manager get hopping mad at an umpire
For so many years, the honor of Opening Day belonging to the Cincinnati Reds, in recognition of their place as the first team
The anticipation of a 3-2 pitch; the release of a foul ball and the re-anticipation of the next pitch
Games with grandpa.
Getting hit by a pitch that's a strike. Doesn't matter if it's a swinging or the Mo Vaughn (called strike).
Perhaps a long HR hit completely out of Minute Maid Park in Houston, in October 2021.

Hard ground ball down the line that hits the bag and shoots off in an unpredictable direction.
Leadoff triple (Rod Carew, two All Star games in a row!)
When you're down in the 9th, 2 out, 2 strikes, and you realize your guy is a least putting it in play.
inside the park home run

THE BEST.
