Non-homer related, but I remember stumbling across that Ricky Jay special on HBO about 20 years ago. I would periodically remember random bits from it, particularly his dealing from the middle of the deck. I never thought to look for it again until he passed away and I found it on youtube and watched it again.
We've got 3 so far today: Yuli Gurriel, Xander Bogaerts, and Matt Chapman.
Blog favorite Aristides Aquino hit another homer today, his 9th, setting another record: fastest to 9 HR. It took him 14 games. The previous record was 9 in 18 by George Scott. Next up: 10 in 21, by Trevor Story and Scott.
Growing up I considered someone who hit 10 homers to have some pop. Looking back at 1984, there were 41 qualified hitters with fewer than 10 homers, 3 of whom were among the top hitters in the league. This year, it looks as if there will only be about 10. Even in the heart of the Selig era, 1998, there were 35 guys with single digit homers.
Hi Joe - wanted to let you know - and this is a good thing - that I haven't looked at box scores this closely in a long long time and it's a result of this series. I'm sure it's taking up way too much time but I look forward to it in the morning. On that note, I think Kyle Seager and Tom Murphy deserve special attention in the two homers series for hitting their homers back to back... twice. A Double Double. (With Seager going to the wall for a third.)
I don't think the two homer game needs a name. Or if it does, Hanks or Hankosa isn't it. It happens too often for either of those to stick. It needs to be smooth. Rolling off the tongue. A Doubleday.
Another post topic coming? Saw this on HBT today: There have been 19 three-homer games this season. That’s tied with the 2016 season for the second-most three-homer games in a single season league-wide. 2001 has the most with 22 such games.
I give way to the Hankosa - it has a much better ring to it. A Hammy is already assigned to an injury otherwise that could have been a strong contender.
How about a Duplex? As in the building that has two homes.
Some Dodgers dude named Edwin Ríos hit his first two career homers today. This is getting kinda boring...
How about a 2 HR game is a GusZ? After Gus Zernial, who hit 26% of his 237 career HR in games with 2 HR - https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zernigu01.shtml
I had planned to look this up. This is great work :)
with at least 200 career HR, the highest fractions coming in 2 HR games are:
-------------------------
Zernial 26%
Bob Horner 23%
Hack Wilson 21%
McGwire 21%
Greenberg 21%
It should be a Horner. Added benefit that if you don't see the space between the R and N, you see Homer.

Add Bryce Harper and Edwin Rios. That's 5 players with 2 HR today. And it's been 12 straight days with at least 2 players getting 2 HR each. WHEE!
Call it a Greenie.

A Berg or a Bergie ? A DoubleSammy ?
I think we know what would happen if you didn't mention this two HR thing again. Remember your iPad review? Don't think people have forgotten!

Honestly that came to me at this very moment and I have to say I am extremely proud of myself for it.
+1
Very apt. I vote Doubleday as well. Congrats on the epiphany.
My vote's for Doubleday. So perfect.
