Man, it was awful. I feel for Baltimore to be going through something like it.
The Royals were outscored 148-64 during the streak. They gave up 18 unearned runs in 19 games, and their team ERA was still 7.31. The hitters hit .227/.283/.351.
The starter's ERA for the season that year was 6.00. Six!
The long suffering David Dejesus was the only hitter on the team with over 1.8 WAR on the season. A middle reliever was the only other guy over 2.
Here's something: you were in River Falls in 2005, when the Royals were playing Tampa. At that time, J.P. Feyereisen would have been about 12 years old, and in a year or two he'd have attended River Falls High School. And now he plays in Tampa. This is sort of but not exactly a "six degrees of Kevin Bacon" situation - and also, shows how easy it is to draw connections without any meaning between just about anyone and anything, if one tries hard enough, as I believe I've just done. Heh.
I always enjoy it when you relive this story for us. It is easy to laugh about it now because it was so long ago and the Royals have been to the WS a couple of times since then. Man, it was tough at the time...
You had me at “future Royals great Yuniesky Betancourt”.

This one hit me right in my "Remember Some Guys" sweet spot.
Four more losses, and the Orioles will have tied the 1961 Phillies' 23 game losing streak.

I sure miss your columns in the KC Star Joe. We've stuck we the Royals through thick and thin.
As a Lions ‘fan’ I totally get it
