Neil, there is discussion on another thread. The Athletic cannot be activated without sharing credit information for them to use a year from now. I've already had one $500 purchase made at a Target in Miami while I ate supper in Ohio, a credit application at an online retailer I never heard of in Wisconsin, and a card I use regularly closed. Giving out credit card info just because someone wants to store it on their system is an absolute non-starter.
Sorry, but I can't seem to read any of the newer entries. Everything opens to a few preview paragraphs then a banner to read the story only if I sign up for a free trial to The Athletic.
