Sixty-six days until pitchers and catchers … and here’s your daily splash of joy.

Brilliant Reader Thomas: “When my son falls asleep before the game is over, and the first thing he asks me when he wakes up in the morning is, ‘Who won last night?’”

Brilliant Reader James: Envying the left and right field umps that do absolutely nothing but get to watch the World Series up close. Ohtani's 700 million dollar contract feeling cheap. Being able to share something with your dad, like the love at first sight as I see the Fenway green. Learning new words at Red Sox-Yankees at 7 years old. Tradition in a world that loses tradition every day.

Brilliant Reader Randy: “First- and third-base coaches’ boxes that no one stands in.”

Brilliant Reader Bob: Anytime the Mick came up to bat. This is Bobby Richardson Day, September 17, 1966.

Joe: Bobby Richardson is such a nice man. Not too long ago, I agreed to be interviewed for a documentary that PBS did on Richardson … he personally called to thank me and invite me down to South Carolina to have a meal with him.

If you would like to send in the reason why you love baseball, we’d love to hear it. And in that spirit, we’re also now collecting photos and artwork too — old snapshots, ballpark scenes, favorite scorecards, kids’ drawings, ticket stubs, whatever captures the joy of the game for you. Some people are sending song lyrics. Some are sending poems. It’s utterly wonderful. Just send along your baseball joy to [email protected].

Today, in addition to some other fun stuff, I'm breaking down the full Contemporary Era Hall of Fame ballot — and predicting who will go to Cooperstown. We'd love to have you join us.
