Hey Joe, I’ve been doing some research this morning on our Kinston visit with Buck. I’m not sure of the year, but it was likely in 2002, the year you traveled with Buck for your book. Do you recall being in Kinston, NC in 2002 with Buck?
Buck O’Neil was one of the all time great people in baseball! I met him and several other former Negro League players in a Kinston, NC hotel lobby about 25 years ago. My father and son and I talked baseball with Buck for about an hour, as he shared several of his famous stories. He treated us like we were old friends! And of course we all got a hearty Buck O’Neil hug (as did my wife!) as we said goodbye! It remains one of my favorite baseball memories.
