Taunting is a wonderful part of baseball. Taunting is how the myth of Babe Ruth’s called shot in the ‘32 Series was created. Had the Cub’s not been taunting Ruth from the dugout, he would not have gestured toward them. We need more taunting in baseball, not less.

The Cubs racial invective toward Ruth in that at bat was loud enough that fans around the dugout could hear it. It was embarrassing even for the time.

Taunting is stupid. I wish all trash talk would go away. Win on the scoreboard, that's all that matters, and it's certainly all that's entertaining. If I want to watch people insult each other, there are plenty of other shows on TV for that. Also, don't throw at people. That doesn't help you win the game either. All that said, the Astros deserve every bit of ire that comes their way (short of physical injury).

We can't have taunting. That was over-the-top. Taunting starts the slippery slope that leads to name-calling and insulting each others Moms.

Once fans are allowed back, how about using the pouty face as the background for those K signs that get put out, but only for games against the Astros?

Joe Kelly shouldn't be too mad. He wasn't even on the Dodgers when they lost to the Astros in the 2017 World Series. And he was on the Red Sox team, managed by convicted cheater Alex Cora, that beat the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series.

Would love to hear your thoughts about the suspension itself. 8 games out of a 60 game season is the equivalent of 22 games (rounded up) in a regular season. Did the taunting increase it that much? I know he was cited as a "repeat offender," but that does seem like a LOT.

You can't really compare it based on the season. A game is a game. It is not like 22 games because the season is shorter. 8 games is three more than the standard 5 given to pitchers, but in actuality, 5 games to a starter is one game suspension. They start one day later than they would have. The 8 games is a four game suspension in reality. His next start will be 4 games later than it would be without it.

I disagree, every game counts much more in a shortened season IMO, but we are each entitled to our opinions. However, one exception: he's not a starter. 8 games for a reliever who typically makes 50-60 appearances in a normal season (lets' say 1/3 of the games) means he's missing 2-3 relief appearances. That seems pretty meaningful in a 60 game season. Just my thought.

Baseball needs more Joe Kelly types. You hate him if he is on the other team. But he is fun. We have too many robots.

Is this the first time that you can recall a taunt playing a role in a suspension being increased? It seems a bit overkill. As you note, suspending Kelly was fine, but citing the taunt seemed odd.

Completely agree, seemed pretty strange to me as well.
