I’m not going to say I was the world’s biggest Ozzy Osbourne fan. The music was always a bit too headbanging for me. And, honestly, the kids in my high school who wore Black Sabbath T-shirts kind of scared me. I always thought that was the point.
But Ozzy himself always fascinated me — not because of the whole “biting off a dove’s head” thing, but because he seemed genuinely funny and even a little self-aware. He delivered one of my all-time favorite quotes on Bob Costas’ wonderful interview show Later — one I still use all the time.
As I remember it, the exchange went like this::
Bob asked: “Is it true that you once wore your wife’s dress and urinated on the Alamo?”
To which Ozzy replied: “We all have a few skeletons in our closet, Bob.”
