I'm usually cynical but I think $5 a month is very reasonable. Plus, I feel like a freeloader because I read Posnanski's articles for free for literally decades.

"This newsletter and blog is free. I guess that’s not much of a bargain if I’m not writing for it, but I do hope to pick things up here over the next few weeks and have pieces here focusing mostly on non-sports stuff."

Joe, you are THE expert in regards to both the Baseball HOF and the Negro Leagues HOF. Your takes on the Baseball HOF are LEGENDARY and should be required reading for all HOF fans. (I still reread your old posts about the Blyleven/Morris debates, your "breakdown" of the HOF, etc.) But with all due respect...that's basically all that I personally am interested in. Your take on Mike Pence or the butchering of American history known as Hamilton are inconsequential to me. You are the best HOF writer on the planet. Please, focus on that. In fact, I've been hoping you'd write a full book about the HOF. I can't find a single book that has the full voting results for every year of the HOF elections, much less actual commentary about each election. You should write a book about that! OMGosh it'd be so awesome! Do what you do best: write about baseball, write about the HOF, and don't worry "non-sports" posts.

The Clayt: with all due respect, don't click on anything you don't want to read. I hate, Hate, HATE it when someone says to an author "don't write about what I don't want to read about." You are free to not like Pos' writing about Hamilton -- something which I found to be among the best things he has ever published -- or his other non-sports posts, but it is the height of arrogance to say that because you don't like it, he shouldn't do it.

Also, with all due respect, don't read anything you don't want to read. I hate, Hate, HATE it when people fail to see the inherent irony and blatant hypocrisy for criticizing people who criticize others. If you don't like my post, don't read it. That's what you told me to do. How about you take your own advice, sport?

If anyone has their athletic subscription expiring, I got a free additional month by initially pressing cancel just to turn off the auto renew. Will probably re-up in October, though.

Good Lord, Joe - you love baseball and I've loved your writing for years, you have ties to Missouri (right?) and now you are Community fan? Well, that cinches it: you're my favorite sports writer of all time.

I reference your chart on WAR by age about once a year (hence my link to your blog today!).

I've also dabbled back into my Community obsession so I wanted to make you aware of Joel McHale and Ken Jeong's youtube podcase, the Darkest Timeline. it is always highly entertaining and poignant for today's strangeness. Thank you for all the joy you've given baseball fans over the years.

I agree. I was very happy to receive the free one-year subscription to the Athletic for being a Pos supporter. And now I am happy to pay the subscription fee to continue that account to be able to keep reading your articles, along with the other reporters that they have and keep adding. Well worth the $5 per month to keep getting that great content.

Hi Joe,

I’m happy to pay for the Athletic. It’s full of great writing. When I started paying attention to the Royals and baseball, the writing in the Kansas City Star really hooked me. So there. If I couldn’t watch a game, I’d read about it. No complaints. You sportswriters get to tell stories in the present, but for all time as well.

Hey, I enjoy the PosCast, but I don’t listen every week. The most recent one with Michael Schur—about lots of meaningful recent stuff was excellent. I listen when I’m out walking. I alternate it with The Office Ladies with Jenna Fischer & Angela Kinsey— AND Joel McHale & Ken Jeong The Darkest Timeline—about COVID-19 & Community!

Thank you for getting me to subscribe to the Athletic, and your blog. And your podcast!
