Coming to you live from Mexico City, where I am trying to take my first vacation since … I don’t actually remember my last vacation. And I don’t know that we can call this a vacation either, since I’m writing a couple of times every day.

I’m just not good at vacationing.

But we’re supposed to go on a hot air balloon ride tomorrow — so that’s vacationy.

I’m still torn about whether I will actually be going up in a hot air balloon.

Anyway, that’s not the point — the point is everybody is doing their Defector Remember Some Guys of the 21st Century thing, and I obviously had to do my own.

I don’t think I did it exactly right because:

(1) If I’m really going to remember some guys, they will definitely be from the 20th century, you know, Sixto Lezcano and Marty Barrett and Tom Veryzer and Victor Cruz and Mark Eichhorn and the like.

(2) I thought it would be fun, instead of doing a full-fledged “Remember Some Guys” — with obscure players I remember — to simply put a grid together my nine favorite interview subjects of the 21st century. These are the nine I could always count on for good stuff. There are four Hall of Famers on the list, so they’re not exactly “remember some guys” quality — but hey, it’s my grid and I’ll do it the way I want. I’m on vacation!

Here you go!
