So I’ve been pretty busy talking with my friends and recording the conversations. I guess they call that podcasting these days. In my youth, they used to call it wiretapping.
First, the marvelous Molly Knight and I had a conversation about the baseball lockout, what it’s about, what it’s not about, how long we think it’s going to last and how wrong we are likely to be about all of it. We’re talking about having regular baseball conversations and posting them on both of our Substacks, but there’s a little bit of a technical issue I have to work through, so for now it’s over here at Molly’s Substack. I hope you’ll give it a listen and sign up with Molly because she’s the best.
Again, here’s the link to that the first Molly and Joe Show.
Two PosCasts released in one week, which tells you just how much our overlords at Meadowlark Media are cracking the whip. Mike Schur and I are very frightened.
The Annual Holiday Draft PosCast: A record nine people drafted in this year’s Holiday Draft, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to do a poll here so you can vote on who won. You know how great I am with technology. I do know you can go to this link and vote, which is great, but I really wanted to embed it. Let’s try this:
Who do you think won the PosCast Holiday Draft?
1. Ellen Adair
2. Mike DiCenzo
3. Alexis Gay
4. Linda Holmes
5. Jason Kander
Is that working? I somehow think that’s not the best way to do this but, hey, you can probably figure out a way to vote.
Hall of Fame Emergency PosCast (with Howard Bryant): You probably know that Mike and I do numerous emergency PosCasts because the world is a dangerous place in need of heroes. In this case, we are faced with one of the weirdest, trickiest and craziest Baseball Hall of Fame ballots ever. It’s an emergency!
So we bring in our good friend Howard Bryant to talk for a long, long time about the Hall of Fame. Great fun … particularly because, and I say this with great love, I really don’t agree with Howard on very much when it comes to the Hall of Fame.
Finally, a quick Baseball 100 update: Amazon has officially run out of stock on hardcover Baseball 100s. You can imagine how heartbreaking this is for me so close to Christmas, but there really is no one to blame and nothing to be done — between supply chain issues and the truly stunning popularity of the book. A new printing is supposed to have arrived already and those books will be ingested by Amazon as fast as possible, so I’m hopeful that this will only be a temporary thing.
In the meantime, best I can tell, there are two major places you can get the book in time for Christmas.
First, there are my friends at Rainy Day Books, who not only have hardcover copies, but SIGNED hardcover copies. They have extended their deadline so that now, if you buy the book before 4 p.m. on Monday, December 13, they will get it shipped to you in time to put under the tree. Here’s that link again.
And second, at least for the moment, is Barnes and Noble. I don’t know how long stock will last there because there has been a real run — at last glance, The Baseball 100 was the 25th best-selling book at B&N behind like, McCartney’s lyrics, a few angry political books, Dave Grohl’s awesome autobiography, seven John Grisham thrillers and 18 manga books.
The point is that it could sell out pretty quickly at Barnes and Noble so you might want to get your order in if you want to buy online.
I know there are various copies at various bookstores around the country too, if you want to give that a shot, but I did call around Charlotte yesterday and I don’t think there’s a single book available in town. It’s so weird to have my crazy 800-plus page baseball book be the Tickle Me Elmo of the 2021 Christmas season.

I wanted to add MY personal Steroid-era factoid: how about Pedro Martinez putting up a 1.74 ERA in 2000 and the 2nd place finisher (Clemens) having a 3.90. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Pedro was amazing
(Please note, I am not saying Pedro used PEDs. I'm saying he somehow was awesome enough to put up a 1.74 during the absolute apex of the high-offense era, when no one else could manage better than a 3.9)
I thought the chat with Molly Knight was great and I look forward to more of the Molly and Joe Show. It highlighted some great points about the lockout I wasn't aware of.
