So I’ve been pretty busy talking with my friends and recording the conversations. I guess they call that podcasting these days. In my youth, they used to call it wiretapping.

First, the marvelous Molly Knight and I had a conversation about the baseball lockout, what it’s about, what it’s not about, how long we think it’s going to last and how wrong we are likely to be about all of it. We’re talking about having regular baseball conversations and posting them on both of our Substacks, but there’s a little bit of a technical issue I have to work through, so for now it’s over here at Molly’s Substack. Hall of Fame Emergency PosCast (with Howard Bryant): You probably know that Mike and I do numerous emergency PosCasts because the world is a dangerous place in need of heroes. In this case, we are faced with one of the weirdest, trickiest and craziest Baseball Hall of Fame ballots ever. It’s an emergency!

So we bring in our good friend Howard Bryant to talk for a long, long time about the Hall of Fame. Great fun … particularly because, and I say this with great love, I really don’t agree with Howard on very much when it comes to the Hall of Fame.

Finally, a quick Baseball 100 update: Amazon has officially run out of stock on hardcover Baseball 100s. You can imagine how heartbreaking this is for me so close to Christmas, but there really is no one to blame and nothing to be done — between supply chain issues and the truly stunning popularity of the book. A new printing is supposed to have arrived already and those books will be ingested by Amazon as fast as possible, so I’m hopeful that this will only be a temporary thing.

In the meantime, best I can tell, there are two major places you can get the book in time for Christmas.

First, there are my friends at Rainy Day Books, who not only have hardcover copies, but SIGNED hardcover copies. They have extended their deadline so that now, if you buy the book before 4 p.m. on Monday, December 13, they will get it shipped to you in time to put under the tree. Here’s that link again.

And second, at least for the moment, is Barnes and Noble. I don’t know how long stock will last there because there has been a real run — at last glance, The Baseball 100 was the 25th best-selling book at B&N behind like, McCartney’s lyrics, a few angry political books, Dave Grohl’s awesome autobiography, seven John Grisham thrillers and 18 manga books.

The point is that it could sell out pretty quickly at Barnes and Noble so you might want to get your order in if you want to buy online.

I know there are various copies at various bookstores around the country too, if you want to give that a shot, but I did call around Charlotte yesterday and I don’t think there’s a single book available in town. It’s so weird to have my crazy 800-plus page baseball book be the Tickle Me Elmo of the 2021 Christmas season.
