The 1971 Chiefs played my fathers town team in basketball, back in the days when teams still did that. Emmitt Thomas and Bobby Bell just flat out dominated. They were both just amazing athletes.
No mention of his suspension and other PED suspicions for the "great athlete " julius peppers? Seems relevant. (Mostly I'm just a bitter Syracuse fan who still holds it against Peppers that he won defensive ROY over Dwight Freeney. Somehow, Peppers won ROY during the SAME SEASON he was suspended for PEDs)
My initial thought when I saw the name Julius Peppers was “Wait, no way”. I must admit I did not see him play much and so never really appreciated how good he was. But Joe certainly made a good case for him.
Another outstanding article, although I would have liked a little more about Bobby Bell.
I was watching the game when Bell ran back the onside kick for a touchdown. I had never seen that happen. The ball was kicked hard along the ground and Bell stepped up, grabbed it and literally charged forward right past the kicking team, who I'm sure were expecting him to fall on it. Once he broke past the kicking team's line, in about half a second, he was in open field and ran unopposed for about 50 yards. That sealed the game. It was so unusual & amazing, that I've never forgotten it, even though I was just a kid.
Whatever happened to Bobby Bell's Barbeque?

How is it that Julie Peppers was not called Doctor?
Great as always. Didn’t realize Peppers would be this high but definitely checks out based on Joe’s arguments.
Love the Bobby Bell pick but this made me want to know more about him.
