The pain of kidney stones, it’s been said, is as close to the feeling of giving birth as a man will ever get. So sorry, Joe. Hope you’re now fine.

Happy and HEALTHIER New Year Joe! You’re the best, still blogging before the ER, but please take care of yourself! I hope you feel better and make your flight, but your health must come first! Please let us know how you are doing as soon as you can, whether from London or a hospital bed. Best wishes from one of your biggest fans and loyalest readers.

I passed one about 35 years ago and it was totally no fun until they give me the pain meds. Aft that I went down the corridor with my robe undone in back. My wife had to chase me down to get things secured. I'll be saying a little per for you Joe.

Man I hope your ER visit went well and that you made your flight. But I do want you to know the High Tide girl is not his daughter. She actually pulls the tag off his hat at the end, not twirling his hair. Happy New Year!

If you look at the article you will see that meats are not listed as a problem for the most common type of stone- calcium oxalate stones. Meat doesn’t contain any oxalates, so eating a diet of nothing but meat is about as 100% kidney stone preventative as possible. These types of stones make up about 70% of all stones.

And that list is a little misleading- spinach is the first food listed, as it should be. But the list doesn’t indicate that spinach is waaaaay the worst oxalate food there is at 6-7 times worse than any other oxalate containing food. Spinach should be treated like poison if you are prone to these types of kidney stones.

There are different types of kidney stones, oxalate is one of them. I know from the most painful weeks of my life by far. A friend told me that for her, it was worse than childbirth.

I had an aunt who almost died birthing one of her children. She said she’d take that experience over her one kidney stone episode.

Hope you feel better soon, Joe. All of this happening on New Year's Eve made me flash on a Doonesbury strip from December 1979. What he said about the '70s applies to this past year and then some. https://www.gocomics.com/doonesbury/1979/12/07
