Like Father, Like Daughter

So, let me tell you what I’m doing: I’m unearthing my old JoeBlogs stories from 15-20 years ago, when I worked for The Kansas City Star and Sports Illustrated. These have pretty much disappeared from the Internet… I guess there might be a way for savvy internet folks to find them. I am not a savvy internet person.

But I figured out a way to bring them back, one by one, and it has been fascinating. I tend to think I write a lot now; back then, I was beyond hope. I wrote CONSTANTLY and about EVERYTHING. It will be fun to bring hundreds of those posts back to life.

One of the posts I found was from 2009 — I ranked the top 10 movie musicals of all time. I found this so funny that I sent it to our oldest daughter, Elizabeth, who writes her own newsletter about old Hollywood called This is Tinseltown.

The instant she saw it, she said, “Oooh, I have to do my own Top 10 list RIGHT NOW”

Less than an hour later, she sent me a text: “Done! Can you look at it?”

She’d written more than 2,000 words.

I couldn’t have been prouder.

Joe’s Notebook is filled with web-only riffs. They will pop up whenever.
