I don't know if there's an Adam Rosen from New York who subscribes to Joe's Substack, but in case you do, and you're wondering where your book is -- it was accidentally sent to me, along with the two that I ordered. I reached out to Rainy Day Books and they emailed me a shipping label for you, and I dropped it in the mail on 10/4.
Joe - Bought three gift books with inscription. All arrived, exactly as hoped. My friends (and Dad) are thrilled to find out their favorite players' rankings and I'm thrilled that they'll be reading your incredible writing. Thanks again for writing such a great book.
Joe - I’m a 43 year old in Northeast Ohio who was turned onto you by my dad. He has since passed, but one of the defining moments I remember with him was after the Browns lost the AFC Championship to Denver on the drive.
He was so excited when Karlis missed the field goal in overtime, but… you know…
I had you sign the book “karlis was wide left” and then asking you to put as many exclamation points as you deemed appropriate.
You wrote a bunch of exclamation points, but you also wrote “not even close”
I don’t know if you meant that the amount of exclamation points wasn’t close, or the kick wasn’t close, but I do not care. The ambiguity makes it better.
I got my shipment the other day. Can't wait to crack it open and see what's been added. Can't wait to gift it to another 5 friends and family members. Thank YOU!
Joe you’ve said “Thank you” a number of times over the last several days- for all the reviews and positive feedback.
As I am now saying Thank you for creating such a masterpiece- and I’ve was a reader of all three attempts at this project. You’ve given and spread a lot of joy.
My three copies arrived today - one of each of us - and I don't know who is most excited. You've given my boys and I something to each read and discuss and debate and... we'll... fathers and sons, Joe. Fathers and sons.
One item in followup Joe... my youngest loves it but is mildly disappointed in you because Harry Potter book 5 is 870 pages and The Baseball 100, while great, did not take the title of Longest Book on his Bookshelf. Something to think about for the 2nd Edition.... :)
I do think Joe edited some of his stories. I haven’t done a cross check on that though. Of course the big difference is that on The Athletic there were thousands of comments, which aren’t included in the book. Those comments, and participating in those discussions were a major joy in my life, especially at that time of the early shut down days of the pandemic.
Thanks Joe, I certainly do feel like a part of all this, having enjoyed every column long befor the book became a reality. Heart-felt Congratulations on this great, and totally deserved, success!

Thanks for reminding me of my dad.

If you don't have a way to get past the WSJ paywall, you might find this "adaptation" of Montville's article interesting, or amusing: https://www.indiansports11.com/the-baseball-100-assessment-closing-rating/
I'm glad you warned me. I thought I was having a stroke halfway through reading it
The translation was wonderful. Bill Dickey renamed "Invoice Dickey" made me laugh out loud.
This will be the fourth (?) time I've read through the list. Some didn't make it to 100, but good ghod.

So now you can say YOU’RE WELCOME.
That was actually the inscription I intended to request (which unfortunately did not work out).
Dear Nik
You’re welcome.
Joe
