I have a poster sized blow up of the 1979 Topps Carew card on my office wall just to my right as I type this. Hands low, front foot raised with toe pointed, bat back, catcher's (Rick Dempsey?) glove setting a low target. It is beautiful.
But of course '77 and not '79 was his magical year. One of the formational events in my life was attending this game when he went over .400 and the crowd - already raucous - went ballistic. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIN/MIN197706260.shtml
P.S. Carew is one of (at least) two living members of the BBHOF who are still with us because of organ donation. I'm not exactly a HOFer, but in this one way, I'm like them too. Register to donate. You can't take 'em with you when you're gone!
BTW, is anyone else getting tired of the incessantly S-L-O-W VAR’s in the World Cup. How about this rule change…no offsides if the ball is inside the 18 yard box. I’ve heard the argument that you don’t want players camping out at the goal mouth. But the blue line in hockey works just fine. Also, need to play Golden Goal in knockout round. Or start settling basketball playoff games with a FT shooting contest, American football with a FG kicking contest, baseball with a HR derby. Could add more subs for ET (not just 1). Hockey uses Golden Goal and it’s not unusual for there to be multiple OT in same playoff series. It’s exhausting for the players but a better way to settle a game of such importance!
How much longer until the first Charlie Brown on the mound joins the Mickey Mouse of Steamboat Willie in the public domain? Or Charlie sitting on the curb lamenting McCovey's liner wasn't just a little bit higher?
I would have said Duane Kuiper before seeing the clue
Josh Gibson... He is, after all, now MLB's record-holder for lifetime average...
Rod Carew - 1977

The cover is Mike’s stupid son, William.
Jerk, not stupid.

Joe Charboneau
I couldn't make your link work, but my guess is Justin Morneau
Bob
I think we can rule out Derek Jeter
Cover has to be 'Tungsten Arm' O'Doyle, right?
Duane Kuiper
Well, at least it isn't Shohei...
Haaland is the Gronk of WC/EPL.
Ben Zobrist. That link won't work for me, anyone else?
Ryan Howard
The hint puts me in the mind of Guess by Charli xcx. Hmmm? Maybe Charlie Brown on the pitchers mound.
The Schultz estate would want Joe’s firstborn.
