OK, I have been in a cave the last few days, and I have to get back in there for the next few, but I wanted to come out for a minute just to tell you what’s coming.
I had every Bill Mazeroski guide from 84 to 94 (or maybe 95 when they stopped publishing). The first one I had featured Gary Carter on the cover with the tag line of 'Can the Franchise Trigger a Pennant'. Who knew that Montreal would never win a pennant with that gang nor with any future players before it moved to Washington.
Those guides along with the Bill James abstracts were the bibles to me back then, esp Maz's guide which I was using to draft fantasy baseball teams starting in 84. I still have them all in a box someplace.
Well I’m not as impressed as others are. It’s pretty clear you won’t include the Pirates in your write up- I’m mean you’ve totally forgotten they even exist- which is pretty ironic as your magazine is inspired by a Pirate. *
And I’m guessing, as you admitted that you’ve also ‘kind of’ forgotten about that team in AZ- *what are they again, the Diamondbacks? - that they may also not be in your magazine.
Even with this cutting of corners I’m still looking forward to reading your preview magazine. 😀Actually a lot more than watching the games, which I’m guessing I won’t watch any during the regular season, may watch a pre-recorded inning or two in the playoffs.
On a different topic, but inspired by your inspiration, Mazeroski is the ultimate example of a guy who got into hall of fame based upon one swing of the bat. Talk about taking the “peak versus longevity” argument to the ultimate degree. He was an excellent defensive second baseman, but without that home run no one would have given him a 2nd thought.
*See Joes blog post the Baseball Whirlwind from earlier this week.
wayyyy back in the "old days" - before Bill Maz mag (he was PLAYING), when dozens on "pre-season preview" baseball magazines roamed the land, it was rumored that one writer was, indeed, responsible for ALL the content of a particular title: wrote all the previews + feature stories, "inside" columns, statistical pieces, using his, and a variety of other, names. So, Joe.... admirable endeavor, but.... Of course you have WAY more teams to deal with than.... credit where credit is due...
I miss the old preview magazines. I have about seven years worth (1987 to 1995) of Street & Smith's baseball, pro football and college football yearbooks stashed away in my attic. The preview mags these days are glossy pieces of trash.
Will you do a Don Heinrich Pro Preview for the NFL? Now that was the bomb!
Fantastic!!

Is Joe HOF eligible? Or do you need to be a beat writer for a specific team?
I’m starting to think “The Goons” from Meadowlark Media is actually Joe himself in some convoluted Fight Club scenario
To anyone who can link a cogent Fight Club reference in a JoeBlogs post … and it not be JoeBlogs … I say “Well Done, Sir!”
This is effing amazing, Joe. The Mazeroski was far and away the preseason bible for years in the pre-internet age.
I'm looking forward to this. Until your announcement, I had no idea who Bill Mazeroski was or the magazine. Consider me schooled!
Guy who turned me on to this blog, also the Maz. Thirty plus years ago.
I was actually there at Forbes field when he hit that shot heard around the world

Seriously? You think Joe will cut corners? Not what he does. It just isn't.
Just joking. Based on the fact that he forgot to include the Pirates in his baseball Whirlwind post. Sometimes humor doesn’t translate to typed words.
I’ve read Joe for years and have the highest regards for him.
I also was big into Mazeroskis, Sporting News previews back in the 80’s thanks Joe I can’t wait.
You never go full Mazeroski.
Yet another reason why Dewey should be in Cooperstown.

Stop wasting time sleeping. It’s highly overrated. BTW nothing wrong with being unhinged.
