I love FG but I'm still not convinced by whip. Surely a weak groundball on a sinker is more likely to be fielded than a barrelled line drive? If so that was in the pitchers control. Surely Zack Grienke gave up fewer hard hit balls than Ramiro Mendoza? We have BABIP now. And we have expected batting average on batted balls. Surely some enterprising nerd can come up with a stat that incorporates percentage of barrelled balls?
Because we're looking for how well someone pitched. There's now a way to parse six squibs in front of the catcher from six line drives to left field.
Each sport may have its peculiarities, but the “unearned runs due to that pitcher’s error” is just all kinds of wrong. We may have to ask the Pope. 😁
