One thing to keep in mind with Jim Leyland’s winning percentage is that he spent much of the 90’s working for teams that wouldn’t spend money. He managed the Pirates as they rebuilt in the late 80’s through their back-to-back-to-back NLCS appearances, then for four years after most of their talent left as free agents. His WS title with the Marlins was rewarded with the fire sale depleted roster in 1998. And outside of his (and Dombrowski’s) time there, the Tigers have been pretty bleak since the Trammell/ Whitaker/ Gibson days. I think that context matters quite a bit.

I was gonna comment about the Astros. Or Craig ("Right-handed Billy Wagner") Kimbrel's latest, completely predictable post-season meltdown.

Then I was gonna go full-stan for my boy, Davey Johnson. I love Davey, as all Mets fans of a certain age do.

Then I was gonna weigh in on random stuff like Altuve's height (he's never SMELLED 5'6"); Abreu's homer, which I don't think has landed yet; that the Jets also have a Dementor Defense(TM); and perhaps a revisitation of the age-old chicken vs. egg argument.

But no. No, no, no. I cannot.

Because I have just lost perhaps 73 years of my life upon learning that motherf#*@ing COWBOY JOE WEST is a candidate for the Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe, please, please, PLEASE tell me you're trolling us. Please. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

Say it ain't so, Joe.
