I am reading this months after the post and, at the very end, I had that sort of muffled nasal-mouth-movement thing where I suppressed a mini-crying jag. Where in the world did that come from? Oh, yeah, I have a 19-year-old daughter who is a huge Taylor Swift fan. And she's a double-down, determined athlete too. I am sure she and Katie would be friends/fierce competitors. I guess you did a pretty fair job of putting me in your shoes, Joe. Congrats!!
Joe -- You are a first team all conference dad if ever there was one. In the words of somebody famous from some famous movie, the most important part of being a dad is just showing up. Way to be there for Katie!
Beautiful! I put off reading this one because I thought it would leave me shaking my fist at the injustices of The Man. But no! It's so nice when we learn something from our kids, isn't it?
I thought of this a few weeks ago. this is literally the best $60 I've ever spent - I get this for $5 a month? you're the best and you really are the kind of dad to emulate
Why do you make me read every word, every time? I'm like no, Joe, I don't have time for this... and I keep reading... no, I REALLY don't have time... I keep reading... I forget what I was supposed to be doing that wasn't this... Damn, that was a great read.
As of tonight, so are a couple of US Senators. There are a lot of people who are asking how the whole Live Nation/Ticketmaster merger was ever allowed. They apparently had no idea how many Swifties there are, and simply did not have the resources to keep up. And now, presales have been cancelled, as there is insufficient inventory to fill the requests currently in the queues.
Nice job, Joe. The things we will do for our kids...
That said, my Katie is 11 and, I believe, has no idea who Taylor Swift is. Her favorite band is Squeeze, followed by Oingo Boingo, 21 Pilots, The Killers, The Interrupters, The Cranberries. We may have had some influence on this...
One of the most important traits a child can develop is a sense of self-efficacy. The belief that if we work hard we can shape outcomes and achieve goals. This is something I struggled with in early life. Don't need to tell you how proud you should be. You already are.

I'm late to this party, but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! And just, wow. What an adventure.

Way to double down, Joe. My favorite columns are the ones you write outside of sports ... and I'm a sports fan.

TLDR: Katie, please don't put me in a home
I remember it all too well
The GOAT comment
Great story. You have given Katie a lifetime memory. Every time where hears a song she will think or you.

Congratulations and well done! I am glad—and just a bit jealous—that this worked out for you.

My son is the opposite of Katie. He does not double down. If that queue showed up for him, he would have been outta there in 2 seconds.
That's what happens when you allow one company to become a virtual ticket monopoly. They do a sucky job. Glad you made it through!
