That vote-in of 17 players all at once was ridiculous, probably the biggest mistake in HoF history. I'm for putting O'Neil in if we take out about 15 of the 17.
I've just read 'Soul of Baseball' and I imagined how awed and joyous the big league players were to see Buck. So if the HOF is a celebration of anything, then by all means, put Buck in. But in another sense, as Willie Mays said in 'Soul', he doesn't have to see it, he lived it.
It may not have broken Buck's heart, but it sure did yours..I remember so well. For the wonderful baseball fans of K.C. it's not too late. He is revered and if nothing else it would mean a lot to the Negro Baseball museum.

As always, well written, Joe. It is a shame Buck was not elected in 2006, but it will still be good if he does get elected.
