Am I missing something? I really enjoy Joe's sports writing so I signed up for this. Since February 18 there haven't been any articles on sports. (Sorry, but IDC about bad movies - or even good ones really) The reason, I gather, is because Joe has been busy working on The Baseball 100. To read it I have to subscribe to The Athletic. I really hate to complain and I know the $ is minuscule but this doesn't seem right.
I love the setup and I think the whole premise is going to provide gold for all of us... but it wouldn't hurt to read a little more about the movie itself.
I still can’t get over the fact that I’m watching a show/movie about a witch with magic powers in the suburbs, and the thing I find unbelievable is Dick Sargent for Dick York.
I have a friend who has been hosting a (more or less) monthly Bad Movie Night for 7 or 8 years. We have seen dozens of terrible movies at his house. It includes a dinner with food themed to the movie. People are given a major award for best costume and best food item related to the movie. We've won a couple of times. We see stuff that you've mostly never heard of with people in it you don't know, but we have seen a few that are real Hollywood movies. Over the Top, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (my personal favorite for Worst Film and Worst Score), Purple Rain, Cat Woman, Blue Hawaii. It's usually handled like Mystery Science Theater 3000, as we all comment on and laugh at the movie.
I would suggest adding *gasp* The Natural to the list. My family and I watched that in its entirety for the first time last night. Thank God it was available on NetFlix for free.
I do not know why this is considered a great film. Yes, lots of well known actors, but none of them very good, and who believes Robert Redford was even as young as 38 when that movie was made? The plot is pretty lame. The movie is too long. Also, the alleged hero is weak, dumb and disloyal. Fine, he doesn't take a bribe to throw the big game, but that is hardly heroic. He dumps the one woman who loves him and who he loves within hours of leaving town. He then doesn't call or contact her for 16 years. When he finally gets to the big leagues, he gets seduced by a woman and becomes more interested in her than in performing well. He ends up happy at the end, but really through no fault of his own. There are many other terrible things about this movie.
I've never seen it, but Purple Rain at least has great music. Maybe closing your eyes and listening would be a positive experience. Or just listening to the album.
Saw it again also. Disjointed. A miss by entirely omitting the backstory. But not bad enough to be eligible for Bad Movie. Speaking of baseball, another movie that aged like corked wine is ‘Bad News Bears’. Sat kids down to watch. Found self having to jump from apology to the next cringe. Ended 20 - 30 minutes in.

"Ishtar" was hilarious. The site of Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman doing song and dance was priceless. I laughed throughout.
Better start thawing the Bronto-Burgers.
Hi Joe how about Mo Berg?

Purple Rain was hardly the worst of the Bad Movies. It definitely has some good music in it.
“Got To Get you Into My Life” by Earth Wind and Fire was the exception that proves the rule.

Fuck that. Bad News Bears is the greatest baseball movie ever. And being very 1970's is a good thing.
Loved the 70s. The misogyny of BNB doesn’t play today w kids who’ve correctly learned positive instruction leads to performance.
Okaaaay...
I like the movie. I wouldn't show it to my kids.
As I understand it, Dick York suffered from severe back pains, and he just couldn't do the show any more.
It’s like replacing the Becky on “Rosanne” and then having the two Beckys together in an episode of “The Connors”, only not good.
So you didn't get to the part about 2/3 of the way in where they suddenly replace Will Ferrell with Paul Rudd without any comment?
I liked Will Farrell a lot more after watching Stranger Than Fiction:

So far my favorite so-bad-its-good is the classic Plan 9 From Outer Space:

Never understood how Will Farrell is funny. His humor just eludes me, and I’ve liked most other SNL alumni.
He's lowbrow. But almost all SNL people are lowbrow. Maybe not Ackroyd and Murray.
I don’t have an issue with lowbrow. Hell, I like Happy Gilmore.
Cowbell.
Full sized cow ribs. Raw.
