On the flight home from Austin … came to town to speak at Dr. Michael Butterworth’s baseball class. I don’t know about you, but there were no baseball classes when I was back in college, at least not at UNC Charlotte, or at least not any that I knew about. One of the students came up afterward to tell me that he’s taking a “History of College Football” class next semester. What a world.

We’re going to have a super-quick Ask Joe this week because of my crazy travel schedule and various other work things … including news on the JoeBlog archive I’m unearthing! More on that soon.

Oh, here’s something fun: I have mentioned that the movie I wrote, The Diamond King about baseball artist Dick Perez, will start streaming next week. To celebrate, I’ll have a conversation here with Dick, the movie’s director Marq Evans and the wonderful actor John Ortiz, who actually performed my narration! It should be a blast.

And if you order the movie, you can get full-color jpegs lf all 404 Diamond King cards that Dick Perez paints. It’s really quite incredible. Here’s a collage of my favorite ones from each year.

From Brilliant Reader Joe: If I gave you a time machine that would allow you to go back and see any five sporting events, which would they be? They can be big events (Ruth's called shot) or everyday occurrences (seeing Oscar Charleston play a random game). They can be something for which you weren't alive (the first basketball game) or something in your lifetime that you would have loved to see live (the Miracle on Ice).
