Fifty-nine days until pitchers and catchers … and here’s your daily splash of joy.

Why do you love baseball?

Brilliant Reader Todd: “That baseball measures and counts everything in order to find—and marvel—at the uniqueness of each such result.”

Brilliant Reader Ralph: “All-Star Baseball games. I still have the cards and cardboard field from 70 years ago — taught me names of historical figures and love of data. My second love was my first game at White Sox Park, climbing up the stairs to gaze upon the field, the sight, the smells, not getting up for 2 1/2 hours because I didn’t want to miss a single pitch. And then the baseball stories my dad would tell — my dad worked for the White Sox in the ’50s.”

Brilliant Reader Mark: “Baltimore Chop … Can of Corn … Texas Leaguer … And of course the Hidden Ball Trick.”

Brilliant Reader Bob: “I love taking my two adult sons to a Padres game at beautiful Petco and the skyline view.”

If you would like to send in the reason why you love baseball, we’d love to hear it. And in that spirit, we’re also now collecting photos and artwork too — old snapshots, ballpark scenes, favorite scorecards, kids’ drawings, ticket stubs, whatever captures the joy of the game for you. Some people are sending song lyrics. Some are sending poems. It’s utterly wonderful. Just send along your baseball joy to [email protected].
