I saw a tweet asking about baseball moments, and I wonder if that could be where the next project goes. I'd love to see 50 great recent baseball moments. (10 years? 20? 30? doesn't really matter). If possible, I'd love for the great moments to be limited to regular season games. As an avid follower of baseball I feel like I've seen and know the great moments in post season play. But I know I've missed many, many moments that matter to a team or community during the regular season. Like an All Star roster, you could make sure that every team is represented at least once. Perfect games, clinching a division, celebrating a recently retired or deceased player, four homerun games, and so on.

Thank you, Joe. I’m pretty new to thinking about baseball. And I’ve been really enjoying The Baseball 100. It’s seriously good writing and when the actual Ink-on-paper book comes out, I’m buying it from Rainy Day Books! Thank you for helping me catch up on baseball history and lore.

Good morning Joe! Do you know if Rainy Day books is still processing online orders? I rarely just donate money but I’d be super happy to make a couple of purchases.

As an idea for your next project: over the last 20 years my friends and I have attempted to visit as many ballparks across the country as we can. Hardly a unique story, but one that’s given us much happiness as we compare/contrast the baseball experience in different towns. One of us even pondered writing a book about our experiences (doubtful that will happen). Have you ever given much consideration to a series of essays regarding the different ballparks and the baseball experiences than can be had in their vicinities?

Have you read The Summer That Saved Baseball? It is by Dave Kaval (A's President) and his best friend from college as they went around to all 30 parks the summer after they graduated. It does more or less what you are talking about.

Hi Paul, I have not read it... however at this point that book is almost 20 years old. Lots of new ballparks since then. Also I would of course prefer Joe’s perspective than anyone else’s. 👍

I agree. Joe's writing on this would be great. The book is still worth reading. It hits some parks that are gone now and does have an appendix with some of the newer ones built in the late '90s and early '00s.

Here’s how great the Baseball 100 was - for 100 days I had Breakfast with Joe, and had read it by 8:30. It was more like prose than essays; there were a few that had to share with friends because the writing was exceptional. I’ve said it many times but once again - Thank you

Let me echo my brother. At a little after 6 am I had a cuppa joe with Joe. It got every single morning off to a good start. I am deeply grateful for your writing it, and blown away by how anyone could write that much, that quickly of that caliber. Thanks!

Loved baseball 100. I'm glad you finished, after the first 2 tries. I read some of the entries to my Katie. Can't wait to buy the book.

Also, for your top 50 countdown, are you taking my suggestion of top 50 all time names in baseball? Can't wait for the Sixto Lezcano entry!

I really think that 20 years from now, the Baseball 100 series is one of the things I'll associate with the Corona virus lockdown period. One of the silver linings of these trying times. Thanks Joe!

Damn. Lost the 72 hour underbet.

Thanks for note on Rainy Day. Have stopped buying books from Amazon.

Don’t forget the Netflix series for Negro Leagues. Give Kaci the day-to-day screenplay work. Am sure she’s now bored. Looking ahead. First stop, Marvin Miller.

I'm 2/3rds of the way through the most excellent PosCast with Joseph Votto, Rosencrans, and Schur, and I just want to add a thank you for making the PosCast weekly to the pile of "thank yous" for the Baseball 100 we've all loved so much! Anyway, I've never been to Rainy Day but I love Kansas City and now I feel the need to do what I can in order to get to go there the next time I visit that city. Thanks for the heads up.

Joe, the Baseball 100 was incredible!! It was a highlight of everyday and something I woke up thinking about and looking forward to. I didn’t get the chance to join the live Q and A this afternoon, but I wanted to ask you if you would be willing to release the full lists from the previous attempts and discuss some of the changes you made. Can’t wait for the next series or whatever you decide to do!

Johnny, under the Ty Cobb story I created two posts- one that listed every player by name and where their ranking was on all 3 versions. The other posting was sorted by ranking number. Of course I guessed at the last seven, got players right but had Ruth at #1. Probably a couple of other small shifts. Anyway at the end of the second ranking I gave detailed instructions on how to get to the first version, including all the stories at baseball fever. Version 2 was not there- at least I didn’t see it. I tell how to get to the 35 stories in version 2 at this blog. My screen name at the Athletic is Ronald H if that helps you search for my posts. And there were a total of 123 players in Joe’s top 100 in all 3 versions so there are a lot of new stories to read. Plus even the repeats had different stories - sometimes way different, sometimes only a little different. The only two players who were ranked the same twice were Reggie Jackson at 59 ( versions 1 & 3 - version 2 only got as far as 66) and Jackie Robinson at 42 (the same comment applies here). Hope this helps and enjoy reading more Joe baseball stuff.

Thanks Rob, I will definitely check that out. I have read those stories before, I was also wondering if Joe would release the lists all the way down to number 1, so we could see how they have evolved. Although with some of the comments it could cause people to lose their minds, so I would understand not wanting to do that.

My guess is that Joe may not have completed his list entirely- at least the order. But I’ll join you in asking Joe to fill in the blanks, so to speak. That would be fun.

Thanks for the update Joe. You’re doing great work!
