I just do not understand why you (or Bill) would think you couldn't enjoy the game and still not think Clemens and Bonds, etc. should not get a plaque in the Hall of Fame. They do not appear to be related concepts. I'm fine with them being featured in the museum, I just do not think they need or deserve the honor of being inducted and all the side benefits that entails. I also do not think fans did not care about steroids as much as they just did not realize it was going on.

I also think that the charm and reason people care is because of the debate. If everyone that could get the honor did so soon after retirement, people would cease to care about it much.

Thanks very much for the great articles. Pete Rose was my favorite player growing up and I always wanted him to get in the hall of fame, in spite of his many flaws. When I got the chance to visit Cooperstown, I realized Pete Rose was all over the place, but just didn't have a plaque and I didn't care any more. Clemens and Bonds are all over the place, just without plaques too. I dont necessarily agree with that, but I am OK with it.
