I don't understand it when people ask "what's the deal with the Braves"? Basically, they lost 4 position players, including their entire outfield. Acuna, Ozuna and Christian Pache (who was installed in CF & couldn't hit). Travis d'Arnaud missed over 3 months. So instead of those guys, who were 3 of the top offensive players on the team, they had an outfield of Guillermo Heredia, Ehire Adrianza and Orlando Arcia. No, they weren't good. At all. They had a revolving door of about 5 catchers who were not good and could not hit. Their bullpen was a mess and their starting pitching was a combination of injured and bad. At the trade deadline, the Braves picked up, not only Peterson, Soler and Duvall, but also Eddie Rosario (which I'm surprised Joe missed with his Cleveland background). They combined for 44 HRs over the final 2+ months. They also got d'Arnaud back and picked up Richard Rodriguez in another trade to solidify the bullpen. Not to mention that Max Fried started pitching like an Ace again. So, along with Charlie Morton (who's been awesome all year) and Ian Anderson coming back late in the year, they have 3 starting pitchers. It's grim after that. The team was resorting to bullpen games to get through some weeks. Anyway, on Aug 1 they had a 52-55 record. From that point to the end of the season, they were 36-18. So don't count them out. They roll into this series on a nice roll.
